Clinical Psychologist
Melissa R. Koniver, PsyD, NCSP
Dr. Melissa Koniver is a licensed clinical psychologist and Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) that specializes in the assessment and treatment of children, adolescents, and their families. Dr. Koniver conducts comprehensive psychoeducational, neuropsychological, psychoeducational, developmental, and gifted evaluations with children and adolescents presenting with cognitive, behavioral, social, emotional, and academic challenges. As a strong believer in a team approach, Dr. Koniver works collaboratively with other treating professionals, parents, and teachers to improve her patients’ functioning both at home and school. Dr. Koniver has worked with children presenting with a variety of concerns including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, learning disabilities, developmental disorders, anxiety, depression, and other social emotional and behavioral challenges. Her unique training in school psychology has provided her with extensive experience working with children, their families, and the school system to support their needs in multiple environments.
Dr. Koniver graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a minor in Sociology. She earned her doctoral degree with honors in School Psychology from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Dr. Koniver has received training in various settings including both public and private schools, private practice, and community mental health settings where she provided evidence-based treatment to children and conducted comprehensive psychological and psychoeducational evaluations. She is certified to administer the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule, Second Edition (ADOS-2) and assesses individuals using this instrument as young as 18 months old. In addition, Dr. Koniver is trained in the PRePARE Model for crisis intervention in the schools and has received training in crisis and grief counseling. She has also completed additional coursework in mindfulness with children and adolescents. With a passion for educating and collaborating with others, Dr. Koniver has presented at both regional and national conferences on the assessment of self-regulation in young children, suicide prevention and crisis intervention, and working with transgender children in a therapeutic setting. She is a recently published author of Gifted and Talented Children in the Macmillan Encyclopedia of Families, Marriages, and Intimate Relationships, which discusses the academic, cognitive, and socioemotional functioning of gifted children and their relationships with their peers and families.
