Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern
Ashley Smith is a Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern. She was born and raised in the beautiful, snowy state of Colorado and has recently made the exciting move to sunny Florida! She has extensive training in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Person-Centered Therapy, however, recognizes each patient’s individuality and does not believe one model fits all.
While pursuing her master’s degree in counseling, Ashley was trained in Applied Behavioral Analysis used in treating Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental and behavioral diagnoses. She collaborates with both parents and teachers in order to develop strategies to help each child and adolescent succeed in both home and school environments.
In addition to working with children, Ashley also uses evidence-based practices to work with adolescents and young adults to treat Anxiety, Depression, and other related disorders. Ashley has been extensively trained in Trauma Informed Care. She specializes in behavioral intervention for children and adolescents and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) with adolescents as well as adults.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Colorado State University-Pueblo with a minor in Sociology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health from Adams State University. Ashley has worked in a variety of settings including acute behavioral units, residential units, outpatient settings, and domestic violence and sexual assault treatment centers.
Her primary focus is to guide her patients in learning the necessary social skills to promote emotional wellbeing and success in all areas of life.
