Carolyn Rubenstein, Ph.D

Carolyn Rubenstein, Ph.D. specializes in the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders in adolescents and adults. She has a particular interest in working with clients on identity development, relationship issues, body image concerns, academic struggles, and perfectionism.

Dr. Rubenstein utilizes an active collaborative approach with a focus on harnessing each individual’s unique strengths. She enjoys integrating acceptance-based cognitive behavioral tools as well as self-compassion and mindfulness into her therapeutic work.

Trained in evidence-based techniques at Harvard University and the University of Miami, Dr. Rubenstein leverages the latest research findings to individualize treatment plans and optimize outcomes.


Dr. Rubenstein received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Duke University, graduating summa cum laude. She received a M.A. in Psychology from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from University of Miami. She completed her predoctoral internship at the University of Miami’s Counseling Center. She was trained in the treatment of anxiety disorders, including OCD, at the OCD Institute at McLean Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. She was also trained in psychoeducational assessment at the Mailman Center for Child Development, a division of University of Miami’s Miller School of Medicine, and in the treatment of eating disorders and body image concerns at Oliver-Pyatt Centers in South Miami. Dr. Rubenstein is the author of Perseverance: How Young People Turn Fear into Hope and How They Can Teach Us To Do The Same (Forge Books) as well as the co-author of numerous academic journal articles on the topic of well-being and flourishing.
